Swept Path Analysis That Keeps Your Designs Moving

Accurate vehicle tracking to ensure safe and efficient layouts.

At Grange Transport Consulting, we provide precise Swept Path Analysis to test how vehicles move within and around your site.

Our reports help developers, architects, and engineers confirm that access, parking, and servicing layouts are workable, safe, and fully up to highway standards.

What Is Swept Path Analysis?

Swept Path Analysis (often called vehicle tracking) simulates the movement of different vehicles through a layout to check that routes, turning areas, and accesses can be negotiated safely and without conflict.

It is often required by local highway authorities as part of Outline planning or Reserved Matters applications. The analysis ensures that vehicles such as refuse vehicles (bin lorries), fire engines, delivery vans, pantechnicon (removals vans), or abnormal loads can manoeuvre safely and efficiently.

We use industry-standard software to:

A curved, dark gray stripe bordering a light blue stripe on a white background.

Confirm that designs accommodate all relevant vehicle types

A graphic design element featuring a dark grey arch layered above a light blue arch, separated by a thin white line.

Test turning circles, reversing, and internal circulation

Two curved parallel stripes in slate gray and light blue, separated by a thin white line on a white background.

Identify areas requiring minor adjustments or mitigation

Our Approach

We combine technical precision with a practical understanding of how layouts function in real life.

Our team works closely with designers to ensure that access, visibility, and operational efficiency are optimised without compromising safety.

Each analysis is based on accurate geometry and vehicle templates that reflect local authority and operator requirements.

Results are clearly presented, with annotated plans and supporting commentary suitable for submission with planning or technical approval documents.

Vehicles and Layouts Analysed

We provide swept path tracking for:

Cars, vans, and light commercial vehicles

A graphic design element featuring a thick, dark gray curved band above a wider, light blue curved band.

Refuse collection and emergency service vehicles

Graphic design element consisting of a dark grey curved band above a lighter blue curved band.

Rigid and articulated HGVs

An abstract graphic of two curved, parallel bands, one in dark charcoal gray and the other in light blue.

Coaches, buses, and service vehicles

A graphic featuring a dark gray curved band above a wider light blue curved band, separated by a thin white line.

Construction and abnormal load vehicles

Two curved bands, one dark gray and one light blue, layered against a white background.

Agricultural and plant equipment

Typical layouts include:

A graphic design element featuring a wide, arched gray stripe layered above a light blue arched stripe.

Site accesses and internal roads

A stylized arch graphic featuring a dark gray curved band above a wider light blue curved band against a white background.

Car parks and service yards

A graphic showing two curved, parallel bands—one dark gray, one light blue—against a white background.

Turning heads and drop-off areas

A minimalist graphic featuring two smooth, parallel curved bands of gray and light blue on a white background.

Loading bays and delivery routes
